A dental bridge is made of 2 parts - the abutments and the pontic. The teeth on either side of the gap usually have crowns as the abutment. The pontic serves as an artificial tooth to fill the gap.
Typically, bridges are made of zirconia-like porcelain, porcelain that has been fused to metal, or a full metallic crown made of noble metals like gold. To mimic real teeth, porcelain crowns are shaded to match your natural teeth or enhance your smile especially if it is in the aesthetic zone.
There are Three types of Dental Bridges
A traditional bridge has 2 abutments on either side of the gap and a pontic in between and is usually constructed of porcelain fused to metal.
A cantilever bridge replaces one missing tooth by using support from the adjacent bigger and stronger tooth.
Gums are supported by a metal or porcelain framework that is made of porcelain, plastic, or porcelain that has been fused to metal. The wings on either side of the bridge, which might be metal or porcelain, are cemented to your natural teeth.
The following steps are involved
Your mouth will be examined by the dentist, who will make sure any tooth decay is restored first. An x-ray may be obtained at this time to ensure the health and vitality of the teeth.
Our dentist will make the two teeth on either side of the gap ready for the dental bridge and then make a mold or 3D scan the teeth.
While you wait for your permanent bridge to be fabricated, you will be given a temporary bridge. The temporary bridge will be taken off when the permanent bridge is ready for cementing.
When the permanent bridge is ready, it will be positioned and cemented to the adjacent teeth on either side. If a dental implant is a better option for you, you could also use it to secure the bridge.
